易错单词Almost

Adv.  Slightly short of；not quite; nearly  差一点就，几乎，差不多

例句:I was almost asleep when my son returned home last night.

易混淆词语：almost，nearly，practically

共性：

(l)这些词语都有“几乎”的意思，并都用于肯定句。

(2)三个词也可以用于否定句，但是肯定句中only just更为常见。

个性：

◆Almost  侧重“缺点，差一点儿，不足”，语气较重，可用在否定词no，none，never以及no或any的合成词之前，almost前不能用very，pretty和not来修饰。

例句: Almost everyone knows how Tom got his Aunt Polly ‘ s fence painted.

Nearly  侧重于“接近”，和almost一样可以修饰不定代词all，every和everyboday；前面可用very，pretty和not来修饰，但不能用在否动词前。

例句:Nearly everybody takes part in the“Jingle Bell Run” to welcome the coming of the new year.几乎每个人都参加“新年铃声长跑”来迎接新年。

I know pretty nearly all the secrets of his mamea iite.

Practically  多用于口语，少用于书面话，很多情况下可以与almost和nearly通用，但不能用在very，pretty和not之后。

例句:We ‘ ve had practically no fine weather this month.这个月可以说没有好天气。

It ‘ s practically  impossible for him to recover from the diseases.

他几乎没有什么希望能够从这场病中恢复过来。

注意：almost还可以用作形容词，表示某物与某物近似，但这种用法比较罕见。

例句:I cannot account for his almost impudence.

我无法解释他为什么几乎近似无礼。
